A Statesville man was charged with stealing antique engines and other items during a home break-in in August.

Kenneth Allen Johnson of Statesville faces charges of breaking and entering, misdemeanor larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Sheriff Phil Redmond said Johnson is charged with stealing antique engines from a Beechwood Farm Road home in August, as well as possession of items from a 2004 break-in at the same home.

Detective Sgt. Mark Nicholson began investigating after the homeowner reported the second break-in in August. He said he discovered that Johnson sold two of the engines, and found other items taken in the break-in at Johnson's home.

A search warrant was obtained and items stolen in the 2004 break-in were found, Nicholson said.

The Davie County Sheriff's Office was, at the same time, investigating Johnson as a suspect in break-ins in that county and contacted Nicholson, he said.

Davie County detectives said Johnson pawned several antique engines in Clemmons, and those were recovered.

Nicholson said Johnson was later arrested in Davie County.

Johnson led detectives to the remainder of the stolen property, Nicholson said.

All of the engines in the most recent break-in and several items from the 2004 break-in were recovered, Nicholson said.

Randall "Randy" Lynn Hines is being sought on charges of breaking and entering and larceny.

Sheriff Phil Redmond said a 2006 Buell motorcycle was taken during a break-in on Bradley Farm Road.

The motorcycle was found at a home in Wilkesboro, Detective Sgt. Mark Nicholson said.

Warrants were drawn for Hines, and he is still at large. Anyone with information on his whereabouts can call the sheriff's office at (704) 878-3100.

Charges filed in theft of vehicle in July 2008

A man was charged with stealing a vehicle more than a year ago.

Ramone Everette Torrence of Statesville was charged with felony larceny.

Iredell County Sheriff Phil Redmond said a woman reported her car stolen in July 2008 and said several items were taken from her house at the same time.

On Oct. 23 of this year, the woman was in Rowan County and saw a vehicle similar to hers at a home. She contacted authorities.

Detective Sgts. Mark Nicholson and Derrick Getz went to the address, and discovered the vehicle did belong to the victim. The owner of the property told the detectives that the vehicle had been left there by Torrence, and he also brought several other things to the house.

The property was identified as the victim's, Nicholson said.

Torrence was served with the warrants at the Iredell County Detention Center, where he is being held on a probation violation.
