Police: Man robbed in Food Lion parking lot

An armed robbery suspect was taken into custody just moments after the incident occured Monday night, authorities said.

Statesville Police Department Assistant Chief Bill Halliburton said that Marcus Dicarlo Morrison, 20, of Statesville was arrested on charges of armed robbery, assault by pointing a gun and carrying a concealed weapon.

Halliburton said a man was accosted by a suspect in the parking lot of the Food Lion on Davie Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The suspect pointed a silver handgun at the man and demanded his wallet, he said.

After getting the wallet, the suspect took the money and threw the wallet on the ground, and then ran away , Halliburton said.

Officers circulated the area, and an officer on Forest Park Drive spotted a man matching the suspect's description.

The victim identified the suspect.

Halliburton said a dog was used to check the area, and the dog found a silver handgun in the bushes about 4 feet from where Morrison was apprehended.

Arrests made in case of child abduction

Four Alexander County residents were charged in connection with a child abduction and burglary.

Matthew Ryan Hoover, 35, Kimberly Wilson Combs, 48, April Nicole Combs, 19, and Sue Hoover Green, 42, face charges of abduction of a child, first-degree burglary and aiding and abetting first-degree burglary.

Iredell County Sheriff Phil Redmond said deputies responded to a call on Scotts View Drive on Monday.

Deputies spoke with a woman at the residence, who said she was the girlfriend of the child's father.

She said she was babysitting an infant while the father was at work when she heard a knock on the door, Redmond said.

The girlfriend told deputies the woman identified herself as Sue Green and said she was with the Department of Social Services and was there to check on the well-being of the child.

She said she opened the door and let the woman inside. The woman walked over and picked the baby up and as the girlfriend was closing the door, she noticed two other people walking to the door, Redmond said.

The girlfriend told deputies she recognized the two as Kimberlie Combs, the grandmother of the baby, and her boyfriend, Hoover.

She told them they couldn't come inside, but Hoover forced his way in with Combs following, Redmond said.

Hoover, she said, told her he was there for the baby and wasn't leaving without him.

Redmond said Green carried the baby to the car, where April Combs, the baby's mother, was waiting inside.

Deputy John Adams obtained felony warrants on all four, and they were arrested.

The baby was returned safely to his father.

Woman charged with giving police fake name

A woman charged with firing a weapon near Harmony Elementary School is now facing another charge after authorities said she gave them a false name.

Mary Anne Heglar of Harmony is charged with resisting a public officer by giving a false name.

Heglar was arrested last week after deputies Carl Adams and Brad Stroud and Detective Sgt. Errin Jenkins investigated a complaint of shots being fired around the soccer field at Harmony Elementary School.

She was charged with disorderly conduct by shooting a gun on property adjacent to a school.

She provided a name to deputies and after her name was published on the R&L's Web site, the sheriff's office received calls that name was false.

Deputies then learned her true name and recharged her under that name and filed the additional charge.
