State Oks additional Brawley widening, I-77 ramp

The State of North Carolina has awarded a $22.6 million contract to complete the widening of Brawley School Road and build an interchange at I-77, Gov. Bev Perdue announced Tuesday.
The project is a continuation of the Brawley School improvement that will widen the highway from two lanes to four. The first section of the project is about 25 percent complete.
This second phase includes widening Brawley School from Williamson Road to Rolling Hills Road, a distance of 1.2 miles, and adding an interchange at the intersection of I-77 and Brawley School Road, including ramps, a bridge and signs.
A $22.6 million contract was awarded to W.C. English Inc. of Lynchburg, Va. for the project.
Work could start as early as Nov. 30 and is scheduled to be finished by July 1, 2013.
