Lake Norman's volleyball team bowed out in the second round of the playoffs last week with a 3-1 loss to Hopewell, bringing to a close another strong season for the young Wildcats.
Coach Karen Poulin's squad featured only two seniors, yet the Wildcats managed to finish 17-10 and tied for third place in the I-Meck Conference during their first season in 4A.
"I'm not sure the expectations were that high," said Poulin, whose Wildcats reached the fourth round playoffs in 2008 when they were a 3A school. "I'm really, really impressed that such a young team has done some amazing things. We hit our peak and started playing our best volleyball at end of season, and that's the way it should be. We certainly found a way to work together.
"I think we need to keep that in perspective. There's good hope for Lake Norman for next year."
