Statesville's top player, Ali Boggs, was the lone 3A player from the area to take part in this weekend's NCHSAA state girls tennis championship.

The No. 4 seed from the West Region, Boggs bumped into Mary-Katherine Prince in the first round.

Prince was playing in her fourth consecutive singles championship tournament and downed Boggs 6-1, 6-1.
