Danny T. Dyson was appointed clerk of court for Alexander County to serve the remainder of Seth Chapman's term in office.
Chapman, who is the current clerk of court, announced he plans to retire June 1. His term expires Dec. 31, 2010.
Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Christopher Collier made the announcement Tuesday.
Dyson has been employed as an assistant clerk of court in Alexander County for 23 years.
"The citizens of Alexander County are fortunate to have Mr. Dyson as their new clerk, as he has broad experience in all duties of the office and is ready to hit the ground running. He will continue to provide the excellent service Alexander County has grown accustomed to under the leadership of Seth Chapman," Collier said.
Alexander County is part of Judicial District 22-A, which also encompasses Iredell County.
Dyson will be sworn in by Collier at 9 a.m. June 1. The ceremony will take place in the Superior Courtroom of the Alexander County Courthouse and the public is invited to attend.
