Participants in the Greater Statesville Chamber of Commerce's 2009 Leadership Statesville program have continued an outstanding tradition of completing a worthwhile project aimed at improving the quality of life for area residents.
Recent projects have included the historic downtown walking tour, the creation of an outdoor classroom at Third Creek Elementary School, and the addition of play equipment for physically challenged children and a disc golf course at the Statesville Soccer Complex.
This year's project, planning and construction of a community park and picnic shelter in the new Fourth Creek Village, is as impressive as the Habitat for Humanity development that it now graces.
The Statesville chamber does a lot of good in our community — and not just for its members.
Leadership Statesville benefits the entire community by promoting civic involvement, which is essential to the long-term success of our businesses, government and schools.
Graduates of Leadership Statesville may never run for public office or serve on the boards of local nonprofits, but as their work on this project shows, leadership can take many forms.
