Wayne Country Day 3 Statesville Christian 1

Wayne Country Day eliminated Statesville Christian on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1A state playoffs with a 3-1 victory.

Wayne Country Day scored two unanswered goals in the second half to prevail.

Deborah DeGraff's goal midway through the first half sent eighth-seeded Statesville Christian (9-5-1) into the intermission with a 1-1 tie with the No. 1 seed.

The Lions outshot Wayne Country Day 16-14.
