What was supposed to be one of the most balanced games in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1A playoffs turned into a rout.
No. 8 seed Statesville Christian trounced No. 9 seed Crossroads Christian of Henderson 9-1 on Friday.
Drew Burgiss recorded a hat trick for the Lions (9-4-1), and Rachel Lambert and Deborah DeGraff both scored twice as well.
Morgan Randolph and Katie Lamm rounded out the scoring.
Burgiss, Lambert, Randolph and Kayla Revelle all had assists as well.
The Lions will play in the quarterfinals of the state tournament Tuesday on the road against Wayne Country Day (15-1).
