Iredell Museums will hold its annual Art in Bloom spring fundraising event on April 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Statesville Civic Center, 300 N. Center St., Statesville.
The featured speaker of Art in Bloom 2009 will be floral designer Cydney Davis-English of The English Garden, Raleigh.
Davis-English is no stranger to the florist industry having made her first bouquet at the tender age of three while at her Granny B's flower shop in Roseboro. She attended Rollins College in Florida. David-English worked as as a lead designer at Oui-Bits florist, freelanced with a host of North Carolina florists and joined her family florist. She took a brief hiatus to pursue music and theater at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. She managed a theater and entertainment complex in Alabama, led a non-profit theater in Lexington, Va., and was development director for Artspace in Raleigh.
In 2006, Davis-English opened The English Garden Florist.
The English Garden was recently honored by Midtown Magazine as the Best Place in Raleigh to Buy Flowers and by the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and The United Arts Council of Raleigh/Wake County with the 2008-2009 Small Business Supporter of the Arts Award.
In 2007, Davis-English assumed the position as head of the Wake County Florist Association. A firm believer in continuing education, she has recently studied with Els Hazenberg, an acclaimed Dutch designer, and Hitomi Gilliam, one of the country's foremost authorities on Ikebana and Asian inspired design.

The ticket price of $35 includes admission to the event as well as morning refreshments and a catered lunch. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased at Iredell Museums, 134 Court St., Statesville, or by calling 704-873-4734.
Iredell Museums is the result of the December 2004 merger of the Arts & Heritage Museum and the Children's Museum of Iredell County. Iredell Museums currently operates three locations in Statesville: The Court Street Gallery, located at 134 Court Street in downtown Statesville, which hosts rotating art exhibits by regional artists; The Children's Museum, located in Signal Hill Mall, which offers a children's play space, classes and camps, and other children's after-school activities; and The Heritage Farmstead/Learning Center, located at 1335 Museum Road, which is the site for the Museums' workshops as well as a two-story log house, one-room cabin, smoke house, corn crib, blacksmith shop, privy, hearth and kitchen garden and an adjacent one-room schoolhouse.
