Tug-of-war over who does more

Moms are mad, according to the article from today's Family Time page (http://www2.statesville.com/content/2009/mar/08/mo...).

Specifically, they're mad at their husbands for not helping enough with the kids, the house or the million other little jobs that have to get done every day. And they're hitting the Internet to vent their anger.

While I wouldn't necessarily use the word mad, it's hard to argue that the author of the article has a point.

Whether you're hanging out at book club, waiting in the carpool line or sitting in the lobby at gymnastics, there's a good chance you'll find a group of moms talking about their husbands.

Most of the women I hear tend to balance the good with the bad.

"My husband does a great job helping with the kids' homework, but ... "

What comes next is often a laundry list (pun intended) of forgotten chores or neglected duties, ending with a shared rolling of the eyes and knowing nods.

Somewhere, it seems, there's been a disconnect and I'm not sure what the answer is.

When I get home from work, the last thing I feel like doing is a load of dirty clothes, so it seems unfair to expect husbands would feel differently.

But clean school pants are a must, so somebody has to suck it up and throw a load in the machine before bed.

I think that's why the women I overhear complaining sound a little confused too. They want a little more help, but there isn't a clear-cut rule anymore about who takes out the trash and who unloads the dishwasher.

That seemed to be the most useful message in the article — communication. Many of my friends who are frustrated at home have never actually told their husbands.

It may not solve everything, but it makes more sense to me than just sending their frustrations out into cyberspace, resigned that things will never change.
