Hundreds of people were stranded at Charlotte Douglas-Airport Sunday night due to cancelled flights from the storm that swept through Charlotte and into the Northeast. Approximately 1,400 people spent the night in the terminal, officials said, creating challenges for airline staff to find them replacement flights.

More than 30 additional flights scheduled to depart between 8 a.m. and noon today were cancelled, according to flightstats.com. Airport spokeswoman Haley Gentry said many of the morning cancellations are due to the "domino effect" of yesterday.

"Some flights are associated with weather in other cities -- particularly Boston -- and others are associated with the fact that crews aren't were they need to be due to the events of yesterday," Gentry said in an email.

U.S. Airways cancelled morning flights to Baltimore, Boston, Pittsburgh and New York, among others. Boston is experiencing blizzard-like conditions.

More than 100 flights were cancelled Sunday at Boston's Logan International Airport. Hundreds more flights were canceled at the New York region's three major airports, officials said. U.S. Airways spokeswoman Michelle Mohr said some flights have been cancelled "to thin out our operation" and make it more manageable with wintery weather. The airline is relaxing certain fees for customers who may have to change travel plans as a result of the snow storm.

Some Charlotte-based auto racing teams trying to get home after Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Shelby 427 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway were having trouble. Some flights from Las Vegas were cancelled. Other teams delayed flying out until today. Teams usually fly home the same day of a race.
