Firefighters battle blaze in garage, attic

A fire destroyed a garage and damaged a house Wednesday afternoon on Kennesaw Road north of Harmony.
Iredell County Deputy Fire Marshal Ronny Thompson said the fire started in the garage and spread to the attic of the house.
However, he said, firefighters from Harmony, Lone Hickory and Union Grove fire departments were able to stop the spread of the blaze before it caused major damage to the house.
Thompson said the house and garage are owned by James Blansett, and he was inside the house when the fire was discovered.
Thompson said Blansett indicated he'd been in the garage about 10 minutes prior to the discovery of the fire.
Because of the heavy damage to the garage, Thompson said, determining the cause of the blaze is difficult.
Blansett, he said, had tools and exercise equipment in the garage, and those were destroyed.
