Super. Just super. That sums up the stellar varsity sports year for Lake Norman High School during 2008-09.
From an individual and team standpoint, Lake Norman filled its sports buffet line full of conference and state championship-caliber acts, from the year's opening season to its last.
It was the school's best year for athletics in its seven-year history.
The Wildcats have many to thank.
County, conference and state champions galore in the form of both team and solo acts helped make the year's sports calendar complete.
Earlier this week, during the school's annual all-sports awards assembly, singled out were those top team accomplishments as well as individuals.
From a team standpoint, it all starts at the top.
State's top teams
Lake Norman snared N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A class state championship titles in boys swimming during the winter season as well as in both boys tennis and baseball during the recently-completed spring. For all three, it was the first time any has hit such a pinnacle point.
In the case of the latter, it polished off its program's unprecedented run to the state title during the final full weekend of the state high school's spring sports season.
Those head-of-the-class efforts, used to also extend a streak for the athletic department of housing at least one overall state team title entry for a third straight year, combine to account for the most number of state class acts put forth by teams at Lake Norman in school history during the course of a single prep sports year.
