Iredell-Statesville Schools Superintendent Terry Holliday is one of four finalists being considered by the Kentucky Board of Education to be the state's next commissioner of education.
According to a Kentucky Department of Education press release, the candidates were selected by the board during a special meeting Thursday.
The board will meet with the candidates separately Tuesday in Frankfort, Ky.
Holliday, who was named the North Carolina Superintendent of the Year for 2009, could not be reached for comment. He was hired by I-SS in 2002.
Holliday is joined on the list by Dennis Cheek, a senior fellow at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation in Kansas City, Mo.; Catherine Cross Maple, a deputy cabinet secretary for the New Mexico Public Education Department; and Michael Sentence, a former Secretary's Regional Representative for the U.S. Department of Education.
The commissioner of education post was left vacant by Jon Draud, who resigned in early February for health reasons, according to a Kentucky Department of Education press release.
During the search, the board and Greenwood/Asher & Associates Inc. made more than 300 contacts, reviewed detailed information on approximately 80 individuals and interviewed 12 candidates.
