The Mooresville Artist Guild will be bringing more creativity than ever to the Mooresville area this year.
"Our overlying goal, always, is to support the visual arts in the Mooresville region and that is a wide range, from South Charlotte to Hickory and all over," said Guild President Wayne McGuire. "We strive to promote local art."
Currently, the exhibit in the guild features an exhibit, "Women painting women."
"There's photos and paintings and even a three-dimensional ceramic piece by Penny Overcash," he said. "All of the artists drew names to get one another and the representations are amazing."
A full list of the women who participated and their art form is on the guild's Web site, mooresvilleartistguild.com.
Also on display are landscape and portrait works by Leena Rosentreter and "Backyard Blooms" by Joyce Patch.
"All of the women are fantastic," McGuire said. "We have every level of skill and experience represented in the Guild and it spans the spectrum from beginner to being nationally recognized."
The next major show will be a traveling exhibit of watercolors.
"It's like something you would expect at the Met; it's amazing," McGuire said. "We always want to bring quality art to Mooresville."
Coming up in March, the Guild will loan its space to local children who have talent and display works from area schools in honor of Youth Art Month.
"We invite art teachers and welcome home-schooled kids to choose entries and each child can submit one work of art," he said. "It's a great way to reach out the community; there's no fee and we offer cash rewards, certificates and ribbons for the children who place. The evening that the awards are presented the place is packed with proud parents."
The annual spring show will be held in May, with three-dimensional art, paintings and watercolors being judged for cash and prizes. The fall show in October will be along the same lines, although the entry fees for each may vary.
"You don't have to be a member to participate in either of the shows and we hire a professional judge, so it's completely objective," McGuire said.
July will bring a photography contest, and finally, in December, the Guild will have a member-judged show.
For those interested in joining the guild, the cost is $35, McGuire said.
"You don't have to have a skill; we have so many talented people here that are more than willing to share their knowledge," he said. "We also have art classes for every level."
