Scholarship opportunity for a high school student

Local High School Student could win $10,000 by participating in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary Young American Creative Art Awards.

Cathy "Casey" Williams, President of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Vet-eran of Foreign Wars (VFW) Statesville Post #2031, announced the kick-off of this year's VFW and its Ladies Auxiliary "Young American Creative Art Award Scholarship Competition".

North Carolina High School students in (Grades 9-12) have the opportunity to compete in the annual Patriotic Art competition and win thou-sands of dollars in scholarships, a trip to National Convention and as well as dozens of other awards. The winning piece of art will be unveiled at the convention and will be featured on the cover of the La-dies Auxiliary VFW magazine and on the Auxiliary. Web site (www.ladiesauxvfw.com).

Students begin by competing at the local VFW Post level. Deadline for entries at the Post is March 31, 2009. Post winners advance to District and district winners compete in the state competition.

Eligibility: Students families do not have to be a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars or the Ladies Auxiliary to compete. Students must be in grades 9-12. Students must attend a school in the same state as the sponsoring Ladies Auxiliary. Homeschool students are eligible, foreign exchange students are not. Previous national winners cannot participate again.
