State Park announces March lineup

From bird watching to canoeing, Lake Norman State Park has a varied lineup of activities planned during March. Here's a look:

Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 9:00 am BIRD WATCHING
Join a Ranger at 9:00 AM at the Park Lake parking lot, your first left when you come in the main entrance. We will take a leisurely hike along the Alder Trail and shoreline in search of the park's winter birds. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear. If you have binoculars please bring them, a limited number will be available to loan out. The program will last between 1.5 and 2 hours. Contact the park office to register - 704-528-6350.

Sunday, March 8, 2009 at 1:00 pm GAME FISH OF LAKE NORMAN
Join a Ranger at 1:00 PM at the community building for a power point presentation on the Game Fish of Lake Norman. The program will last between 30 to 45 minutes. Contact the park office to register - 704-528-6350.

Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 2:00 pm PARK LAKE CANOE TRIP
Join a Ranger at 2:00 pm at the Park Lake parking lot, your first left when you come in the main entrance, for a guided canoe tour of Park Lake. We will be talking about and looking for signs of wildlife found along the lake shore. Canoe experience required. Minimum age of 7 years old and all participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The program will last 1.5 hours. Contact the park office to register - 704-528-6350.

Sunday, March 15, 2009 at 2:00 pm CATCH
Join a Ranger at 2:00 pm at the Park Lake parking lot, your first left when you come in the main entrance, for a fun day of fishing. This program will teach the basics of fishing and then we will go fishing. All equipment will be provided but feel free to bring your own. No fishing license or experience is required. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The program will last 1.5 hours. Contact the park office to register - 704-528-6350.

Friday, March 27, 2009 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm TESTING THE WATERS
Join park staff from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM for "Testing the Waters" an Environmental Education Learning Experience. This is a teacher workshop designed for teachers and non-formal educators; to register or for more information contact the park office at 704-528-6350.
