For the cost of a few hours of time, local teens have an opportunity to markedly increase their SAT scores through an upcoming SAT workshop at Mooresville High.
The free program, "Strategies for Beating the Odds on the SAT," will be held in the MHS auditorium on Feb. 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is hosted by the Mooresville Graded School District. Students from MHS as well as surrounding high schools are welcome to attend the program.
Presented by John Swann – an SAT consultant and nationally renowned educator from Dayton Public Schools in Ohio – the free workshop will provide teenagers with helpful information about preparing for and taking the examination.
Some students who have previously attended the workshop were able to increase their SAT scores by 100 to 200 points, or even more, according to the MGSD.
"(Swann) basically helps students understand the mysteries of the SAT, and gives a lot of suggestions, advice and tidbits on how to attack it and conquer it," said Bill Parker, executive director of secondary education for the MGSD who also utilized the workshop in his former Virginia school district.
A recent $2,300 donation to the MGSD from the Mooresville NAACP has helped fund the free program, which will offer complimentary refreshments to those in attendance.
For more information or to register for the workshop, contact the MHS guidance office at 704-658-2580.
