Troutman is about to hand the keys to the J. Hoyt Hayes Memorial Troutman Library over to the Iredell County Public Library System.
The library on the corner of Church and Brown Streets is slated to open on April 12.
"I am so thrilled," said Citizens for the Troutman Library committee member Sara Ferrar. "It's been a long time coming. The people of Troutman have been really supportive."
Ferrar said the committee raised more than $700,000 for the project. Now, it's time to turn the building over to the county to get staffed and stocked.
Before the doors open on the newest branch of the Iredell County Public Library system, the county has to purchase 7,000 to 8,000 books, 16 computers, tables, chairs and book shelves, said Steve Messick, Iredell County Library Director.
The money for the new equipment is a part of the library's budget for the 2009-10 fiscal year.
The computers will be purchased using grant funds from the state library fund of North Carolina, Messick said.
The new 7,000-square-foot space gives the new library room to grow. Messick said it will hold 17,000 to 18,000 books once it's fully stocked.
The library is named in honor of Wanda Haughton's father, J. Hoyt Hayes. Haughton and her husband Paul donated $310,000 toward the project.
Citizens for the Troutman Library President Winkie Powell said the county needs access to the building to get everything set up.
The citizens group is still raising money for the library. In July, the Troutman Board of Aldermen agreed to secure the financing necessary to close the gap between the $701,650 and the estimated final price tag of $880,000.
"We are very excited about it," Powell said. "We are excited about the building and location."
The library will have two full-time and two-part time staff members.
Proposed operation hours will be Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
