A survey of the existing buildings, trees and other structures will be completed
early next year, and will play a big role in determining how the area can be
reshaped under the Downtown & N.C. Highway 115 Streetscape/Land Use Master Plan.
The determinations of this survey should help the council, downtown merchants
and other concerned citizens see what can -- and can't -- be done about parking
downtown.
In the scheme of such a major project, $28,000 to find a solution to one of the
only sticking points could be money very well spent. But timing is everything,
and it doesn't seem the time is right quite yet.
