Observant neighbors led law enforcement officers to a man they believe is responsible for breaking into a home near Troutman.

Aaron Scott Knight of Charlotte is being held on charges of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, damage to real property, possession of burglary tools and possession of stolen property.

Detective Sgt. Corey Richard of the Troutman Police Department said a large amount of stolen jewelry was recovered from Knight's vehicle, but most was not traced to the Falls Cove break-in that happened Monday.

Knight, he said, claims he bought the jewelry from someone in Belmont.

Richard said the case unfolded just before 6 p.m. Monday when people in the Falls Cove subdivision, off Perth Road, noticed a stranger around a home in the neighborhood.

They first called the homeowner, and then called police, Richard said.

Officers located a truck stuck in the mud near the subdivision, and found Knight as well, Richard said.
They also found a window in a home in the Falls Cove subdivision damaged by ammunition from a BB gun.

Knight had a BB gun in his possession, but told officers he was using it to shoot fish, Richard said.
Richard said a search of the truck revealed several items stolen from the Falls Cove house as well as numerous other pieces of jewelry.

Now, Richard said, police are trying to find out who the jewelry belongs to, and if it was stolen.

Knight has ties to the Charlotte, Gastonia and Concord areas, he said.

Richard said the case is a good example of neighbors knowing their neighbors and recognizing someone didn't belong in the area.
