Tom Pavia e-mailed a letter to the R&L and other recipients Friday evening stating that he is stepping down as Lake Norman's wrestling coach.
Pavia coached three years, leading the Wildcats to 76 dual-team victories and the North Piedmont 3A Conference tournament title last season. They also reached the state playoffs the last three seasons.
Lake Norman was 2-27 the year before Pavia arrived, and the program had never obtained a conference victory.
Pavia cited family reasons for his departure.
"I am proud to say that although it's difficult to leave on many levels; I leave with the Lake Norman Wrestling Program poised to be STATE CHAMPIONS and better off than ever before!" Pavia wrote in his e-mail.
