One week after five businesses in Union Grove were broken into, similar incidents were reported at businesses in the Harmony area.

The break-ins in Harmony occurred at Matthew 25, a food store at 105 E. Memorial Highway, Towne and Country Insurance, 103 E. Memorial Highway, and Family Dollar, 3338 Harmony Highway.

Another break-in and an attempted break-in are similar in nature to those in Harmony, Capt. Darren Campbell of the Iredell County Sheriff's Office said.

The break-in happened at B&J Knits at 3492 Wilkesboro Highway, and a break-in attempt was made at County Line Grocery on Campground Road near the Iredell-Davie line.

Campbell said these break-ins have a lot in common with the Union Grove cases.

The break-ins in Union Grove happened at Triangle Insurance, Union Grove Hardware and 901 Associates, which are all at 1495 W. Memorial Highway, at Union Grove Saw and Knife, 157 Sawtooth Lane and G&G Lumber, 179 Lumber Drive.

In Harmony, cash was taken from the food store and from Family Dollar. The safe at Family Dollar was also broken into.

Those two businesses, along with Towne and Country Insurance, reported damage as well. Nothing was reported taken from the insurance company.

It was a different story at B&J Knits. Three firearms were taken and damage was reported to two doors, two filing cabinets and a desk.

At County Line Grocery, the break-in attempt was unsuccessful, although around $600 in damages to the door and structure was reported.

Four weapons were also taken in one of the Union Grove break-ins.

The cases in Harmony, on Wilkesboro Highway, all happened between noon Saturday and 7 a.m. Monday.

The break-in attempt at County Line Grocery is believed to have happened between 2:14 and 2:47 a.m. Monday.

Campbell said authorities have few leads. Some of the surveillance or security systems were damaged.

Detectives were able to get an image off one system, but it is not a clear picture, he said. Campbell said all detectives can ascertain from the surveillance photo is that the suspect is a white male, approximately 6 feet tall.

Campbell urged businesses with surveillance systems to make sure they are up to date and working properly.

"A good surveillance system is as good as an eyewitness at 2 o'clock in the morning," he said.
Campbell also encouraged business owners to check their buildings carefully at closing to make sure no one is either inside or hanging around outside.

Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious at these businesses, particularly in the early morning hours Sunday or Monday, can call the sheriff's office at (704) 878-3180.
