There will be a decidedly Mooresville flavor to this year's East-West football game.
Offensive lineman Jordan Marsh and record-setting running back Jjshaun Pinkston were named to the West squad in a list released to media outlets last week.
The two players will join former Blue Devils coach and current athletic director Barclay Marsh, who is an assistant coach for the West team, to give the Mooresville program three representatives.
"It's a great honor," Jordan Marsh said. "It's kind of a good way to end your career. And I'm happy Jjshaun made it too. We know how each other plays, so just knowing someone there at the game will be fun, too."
Pinkston rushed for 2,791 yards this season to break Mooresville's single-season record. He added 32 touchdowns on top of that.
Marsh helped paved the way for Pinkston and the other running backs. He successfully transitioned from tackle to center and was Mooresville's most consistent lineman.
Jordan Marsh is also looking forward to the opportunity to play under his father one last time.
"It will be the last time me and him get to be on the field together, so that's nice," Jordan Marsh said. "I think it will be a fun time for all of us."
Mooresville's boys and girls team both had no problems winning last week's annual Iredell County Track and Field Championships.
The Blue Devils hope that momentum carries over to this week's conference championship, which take place Tuesday and Wednesday at South Rowan.
The Blue Devils boys will be the favorite again, and the girls hope to join them after last week's strong showing.
"It gives us a lot of confidence," Devils track star Aisha Cannon said. "It shows that we can win and accomplish things. It's going to push us even further as we try to win the conference title this year."
The Blue Devils were second to the Northwest Cabarrus Trojans last season.
"We always lose to them by just a teeny bit," Cannon said.
The Blue Devils boys tennis team is again in the 3A playoffs after a pair of 8-1 conference victories last season.
Mooresville will have the No. 2 seed from the North Piedmont 3A.
With strong players at the top, like Neil Trimble and Matt Davis, the Blue Devils hope to make a run to regionals as well.
They will have their shot today and tomorrow at the NPC championships.
