Magazine singles out 50 great American adventures

WASHINGTON - You don't have to go to the Himalayas or the Amazon for adventure.

You can find it right here in the U.S., and the April/May issue of National Geographic Adventure magazine is offering a list of the 50 best American adventures, from surfing and climbing to paddling and pedaling.

Here are the top 10 from that list:

□ Biking the Continental Divide Trail, which takes you through a multistate region.

□ Kayaking Lake Yellowstone in Wyoming

□ Paddling the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon

□ Climbing Mount Rainier in Washington

□ Biking in The Des Moines Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa

□ Surfing the Lost Coast in California between Fort Bragg and Eureka

□ Hiking the Sierra High Route in California

□ Wreck-diving in Lake Superior in Minnesota
