Statesville High School and Visual and Performing Arts Center students will soon get to show off the fruits of their labor.
The students will perform the Broadway musical "Little Shop of Horrors" at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Mac Gray Auditorium on the Statesville High School campus.
The two-act play will run 90 minutes. Tickets are $6 in advance and $8 at the door.
The 28-member cast had a hand in putting together the play from every aspect, from assistant directing, costumes, props and scenery to choreography.
"They've taken ownership of the production," volunteer Sheri Coarsey said.
Assistant Director Abagail Blackwelder, 16, is confident the play will be a success. Now that renovations to the auditorium are completed, the cast can have full use of the space for a larger production, she said.
"I think it's going to turn out really good," she said. "It's going to be the biggest play Statesville High has ever had."
She said the cast and other volunteers have been striving to boost attendance from outside the school.
"We've been trying to get the community to come out more and see how hard we work," she said. "Statesville High should get recognized for more than just its football."
Carter Harris, 16, who plays lead character Seymour, is nervous about his first leading role and still getting acclimated to performing on stage in front of crowds.
"It's very scary," he said.
Twins Brooke and Cameron Bradley, 16, are playing lead character Audrey on separate nights.
The two can't wait to perform and are excited about their opportunities to lead.
Brooke said it's fun to take on larger roles and expand the character.
"We've worked so hard it would be a shame if nobody came and saw it," Brooke said.
"It's a play that's popular and people will enjoy coming out and seeing it," Cameron added.
Cast members include: Carter Harris, Lauren Harrington, Brooke Bradley, Cameron Bradley, TJ Alber, Lucy Coarsey, Leah Lebow, Kelsey Perry, Luke Robbins, Stacey Whitlock, Graham Jordan, Daniel Perry, Brittany Daley, Marian Rushton, Shand Thomas, Tonik Redmond, Alejandra Lopez, Aubrey Turner, Halie Gettys, Kim Nguyen and Max Koger.
