Brothers and fellow Mooresville Senior High products Corey and Roger Alexander never got the chance in high school to play on the synthetic artificial surface now in place in the Mooresville Stadium.
The duo more than made up for that shortcoming last weekend.
Now teammates on the area-based Iredell Warriors semi-professional football team, the Alexanders were simply great in helping the team snap a season-long losing skid. Between them, the kin accounted for a pair of touchdowns – one of them a combination affair – in the Warriors' 37-16 triumph over the Monroe Mustangs.
It was redemption of sorts for the Warriors, whose last appearance in the Mooresville Stadium resulted in the first of the three losses they suffered to fellow league foes.
This time around, thanks to the Alexander brothers in particular, the Iredell team was able to end the backward spree.
Corey Alexander, who followed up his prep career at Mooresville with a successful stint at the University of South Carolina, helped give the Warriors a lead they would never lose when he bullied his way one yard for an early first-period score.
The brothers then hooked up together to account for a second tally just before the halftime break, when quarterback Roger Alexander tossed a 44-yard touchdown pass to his older brother/receiver Corey Alexander that padded the home team's lead.
The Warriors built a 23-8 halftime lead and posted two more scores in the second half while allowing just one to finish off the verdict.
The Iredell Warriors go back on the road to square off against the host Carolina Bulldogs in Charlotte this weekend.
