Lee Fishburne has an infectious personality.
Now, the 37-year-old jokester's sense of humor is paying dividends.
Fishburne, who lives in Statesville, is a finalist in Crest "What's Your Catch Phrase?" contest.
Those who submitted entries to the contest were asked to come up with an original catch phrase for Crest Whitening Expressions toothpaste. The current catch phrase is Emeril Lagasse's famous phrase "Bam."
"If I win, my commercial might be shown nationally in commercial spots," Fishburne said. "If Statesville wants a native son to be on a national Crest commercial, please vote for me."
He was one of five finalists chosen from more than 600 entries.
Fishburne's 30-second video is a creative collage of scenes that range from him singing in the bathroom mirror to dancing with a bright red construction helmet with a Crest logo across the front.
His catch phrase is "FanTaste-ic, which derives from his favorite expression, "Fantastic."
"I wanted to get my point across," he said. "I wanted it to be fun."
Fishburne entered the contest in mid-September and will find out the results in November.
His video, along with those of the other finalists, can be viewed on the Youtube Web site. Voting has already started and will end at 5 p.m. on Nov. 7.
The winner will be announced the week of Nov. 10.
If Fishburne wins, he will receive $6,000 and an-all expense paid trip to New York City that includes access to a production of a Crest commercial.
The contest is sponsored by Proctor & Gamble Distribution. Finalists were selected based on originality, creativity and charisma.
Fishburne learned he was a finalist last week. After hearing he made the cut, he immediately thought of his mother who passed away three years ago.
"I thought about how she would be so proud," he said, his eyes swelling with tears.
