A New York man faces felony drug charges after a traffic stop on U.S. Interstate 77 near the 57-mile marker resulted in the seizure of six pounds of marijuana, authorities said.
Iredell County Sheriff Phil Redmond said that the Iredell County Sheriff's Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement Team stopped a Ford Fusion on I-77 south for speeding around 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Deputies used a canine to search the exterior of the vehicle and the dog indicated the presence of a controlled substance. Deputies searched the vehicle and found more than six pounds of marijuana and $4,960 in cash, Redmond said.
John L. Murray Jr. of Utica, N.Y., was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and felony possession of marijuana.
Murray is being held in the Iredell County Detention Center in lieu of a $15,000 secured bond.
