David Bril, of Statesville, won $5,000 from a "$130 Million Blockbuster" instant scratch-off lottery ticket.

Other winners
Willie Evans Jr. of Chesapeake, Va., likes to travel across the North Carolina/Virginia state line to get a barbeque sandwich at his favorite restaurant in Moyock. While there back in June, he purchased a "Carolina Cash 5" ticket, and just last week he realized that it was worth $575,372.

Evans says he ran across the ticket at his house and decided to make another trip to Moyock to have the ticket scanned at The Border Station on Caratoke Highway, where he'd originally purchased it. When the ticket was scanned, the display read "claim at lottery."

"I'd never seen that before," Evans said, who then asked the cashier how much it was worth. After checking the top prize for the June 4 drawing, the cashier told Evans that his ticket was worth $575,372. Evans says he is still letting his win sink in, but that he and his wife will use some of the money to go on a cruise.

One ticket in the Oct. 15 "Carolina Cash 5" drawing matched all five white balls and is worth $143,234! The ticket was sold at Aztex #202 on Highway 64 East in Hayesville.

In last night's Powerball drawing, one ticket matched four out of five white balls and was Power Played. Since the Power Play multiplier was four, the $10,000 prize is increased to $40,000. This ticket was sold at B & B Food Mart on West Sugar Creek Road in Charlotte.

A total of 34,015 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in the Wednesday, Oct. 15, Powerball drawing, ranging from $40,000 down to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $347,488. No one matched all five white balls plus the Powerball to win the jackpot, so the jackpot for the Saturday, Oct. 18, Powerball drawing is an estimated $32 million.
