McCallie School student Ross Bell, of Statesville, was named this week as a Commended Student in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program, The College Board announced.
Bell is one of 14 McCallie seniors to receive this distinction.
A Commended Student ranks among the top five percent of all high school students in the nation. About 34,000 students receive this honor from Preliminary SAT test scores taken by more than 1.5 million students who entered this year's competition.
Bell is the son of Tim and Ashley Bell.
McCallie School is one of the country's premiere college preparatory schools for boys.
