Every year students look forward to homecoming, the biggest football game of the season.
This year, Mooresville High School's homecoming game will take place on Oct. 17, when the Mooresville Blue Devils match up against the Statesville Greyhounds. The homecoming theme is Decades, and each class will decide on the decade they would like to represent.
Many teenagers look forward not only to this game, but also the events leading up to it.
Student Council is in the process of coordinating homecoming festivities, which include organizing a pep rally, planning spirit week and nominating peers for homecoming court. An annual powderpuff game, when guys and girls switch positions on the field: girls play football and guys are cheerleaders is also set to take place several days before homecoming.
Students are looking forward to the pep rally on the date of the big game to show their school spirit and also have classes cut a few minutes short. Varsity cheerleaders, the Blue Diamonds Colorguard, and Pride in Motion band are all scheduled to preform. In addition, Olympic style events will be held with elected representatives from each homeroom as "Olympic athletes".
Spirit week will be Oct. 13-17.
Monday is set to be election day, when students can wear red, white, and blue as well as T-shirts supporting the presidential candidate of their choice. Tuesday is tacky day, and Wednesday will be "Dress as your Decade" day. College and pro sports team day will be on Thursday, when students show off their favorite teams by wearing jerseys and hats. However, students must have a ticket in order to wear a hat, which can be bought for $1 the week before spirit week. Friday will be spirit day, or "blue and white" day, when high schoolers can display their school spirit and get ready for the big game.
A hall decorating contest will also take place during spirit week, when each class decorates their assigned hall as their decade.
Senior Portia Nleya said, "I am very excited for spirit week, especially tacky day and spirit day."
Students have also been busy nominating peers to come out on the homecoming court during the halftime show. There will be three freshmen, four sophomores, five juniors, and seven seniors on the court this year. The girl that receives the most votes will be crowned "Homecoming Queen".
Homecoming is a very exciting game for the entire study body, not just the Varsity football players. Almost every student is somehow involved, whether it be organizing, participating in spirit week, or even playing in the powderpuff game.
Sophomore Persia Homesley is looking forward to the big game, she likes the fact that she can be involved by dressing up on tacky day and wearing at hat on hat day.
Cori Ahuna, a junior said, " Homecoming is a great way for students to come together and show their school spirit, go Mooresville!"
