A family of four escaped without injury from their burning home in western Cabarrus County Friday morning.
The fire was reported about 5 a.m. at a home in Kannapolis on N.C. 3 near Sudbury Road. Three fire departments responded to the blaze and needed 12 trucks to contain the fire, authorities said. There were no injuries in the conflagration, authorities said.
Firefighters were able to put out the blaze around 6:30 a.m. but clean-up crews blocked off part of N.C. 3 for several hours, authorities said.
Family member's names were not released but firefighters said Red Cross is assisting the family.
The fire forced buses to detour the area in taking children to nearby schools, including Harris Road Middle School and Odell Elementary School.
Dr. James Williams, principal at Harris Road Middle School, said buses arrived by 8:28 a.m.
"The bus garage called us and said they might have to reroute some, leading to delays," Williams said in an e-mail this morning, "but all got here for the start of school."
