The 20-10 first-round playoff loss Friday to Winston-Salem Carver marked the end of the season for West Iredell's football team.
While disappointed the upset bid fell short, finishing 7-5 was not something Warriors coach Mark Weycker frowned upon.
One of the reasons why: West graduated more than 20 seniors from the 2007 team. Many of those athletes played significant roles in becoming the winningest class in program history.
"Some young kids were able to make a big difference for this football team," Weycker said. "We pretty much had to rebuild, and the nice thing is that kind of shows where the program is at right now. Some schools, when you're talking about rebuilding, you're looking at maybe two or three wins. This group was able to get seven wins and, at times, play pretty well."
