Raiders, Warriors swim to victories

SWIMMING: At Statesville YMCA
North Iredell's girls and West Iredell's boys won a four-team intracounty swim meet Thursday at Statesville YMCA.

The Raiders, led by Anna Beth Parlier and Rachel Wells, scored 166 points.

Statesville (136 points), West Iredell (93) and South Iredell (71) followed North in the girls division.

The Warriors, led by Allan Shuford, combined for 144 points. Statesville finished second with 125 points, and the Greyhounds were followed by North Iredell (103) and South Iredell (38).

Parlier and Wells were on the Raiders' winning 200-meter medley and 200-meter freestyle relay teams. Parlier also won the 50 freestyle with a time of 33.34 seconds, while Wells paddled to a first-place time of 1:36.09 in the 100 breaststroke.

Wells was second in the 50 freestyle, and Parlier second in the breaststroke.

Shuford was the star of the boys division. He picked up first-place finishes in the 200 and 400 freestyle races, recording times of 2:43.40 and 5:56.61, respectively.

Josh Clark aided the Warriors with a first-place time in the 100 freestyle, and he and Shuford were both on West's winning 400 freestyle relay.

Other girls individual first-place finishers: Abby Muntz, WI (200 freestyle); Bree Samson, SI (200 individual medley); Samson, SI (100 butterfly); Madeline Snoddy, SHS (100 freestyle); Muntz, WI (400 freestyle); Megan Wood, NI (100 backstroke).

Other boys individual first-place finishers: Tyler Goodman, SI (200 individual medley); Jeffrey Ralston, NI (50 freestyle); Ralston, NI (100 butterfly); Kirk Williamson, SHS (100 backstroke); Goodman, SI (100 breaststroke).
