Dr. Barry Kramer, a Sanger cardiologist, was brought on jointly by Piedmont Healthcare and Iredell Health System.
Kramer specializes in cardiac interventional work meaning if a blockage is determined in the heart, he can act quickly to treat patients with stents and balloons during the onset of a heart attack.
"As the population grows, so do their needs for cardiovascular prevention, treatment and diagnosis," said Allen Ball, director of Cardiovascular Services. "Last year we added the 64-slice CT with heart scan capabilities for diagnosis. Earlier this year we added an interventional lab for diagnosing and treating peripheral vascular disease."
Ball explained that adding cardiac intervention was the next step in offering patients a full spectrum of cardiovascular services.
Kramer received his medical degree from The Ohio State University School of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio. He completed his internship at San Francisco General Hospital, his residency at The University of California Davis and his cardiology residency at the University of California, San Francisco.
Kramer has held many academic and teaching appointments throughout the country during the last 40 years. He has published nearly 75 original medical reports and written over 50 medical abstracts.
