Charges filed in connection with shooting

Two brothers are charged with shooting a local man in an apparent robbery attempt Monday evening.

Chadrick D. Robinson, 22 and Jamar R. Robinson, 20, both of 1211 Mt. Olive Road, were each charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Chadrick Robinson was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Seandale Cousins, 42, was listed in critical condition at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Detective Lt. Andy Poteat of the Iredell County Sheriff's Office said a motorist saw a truck run off the road on Greenbriar Road near Twin Oaks Road and strike a mailbox Monday. The witness discovered Cousins was bleeding.

Deputies arrived and were able to get limited information from Cousins due to his injuries, but he was able to provide some help, Poteat said.

Poteat said deputies talked with witnesses and others, and that led to the Robinson brothers at their home on Mt. Olive Road.

Physical evidence was located that tied the two brothers to Cousins, Poteat said, and information came in that indicated Cousins was shot in a robbery attempt.

Poteat said both Robinson brothers admitted to being present when the shooting took place, but the investigation is still ongoing as to the identity of the actual shooter.

At least one of the brothers knows Cousins, detectives said.

Poteat said information provided by the public and the Statesville Police Department aided in this investigation.

Chadrick Robinson was released from the N.C. Department of Corrections less than three weeks ago — on Oct. 23.

He served a term of more than three years for a probation violation on charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury as well as second-degree burglary.

His brother was released prison on Aug. 10 after serving the same term as his brother for the same charges.

Chadrick Robinson's bond was set at $150,000 and Jamar Robinson's at $125,000.
