In the battle against pet hair, I keep losing

A clean house means a happy Jess, and pet hair has to be my enemy No. 1.
You know it's time to sweep when fur balls dance across your laminates like miniature tumbleweeds.
It collects on soft furniture, makes its way into the crevices on the stairs and blankets shelves.
But I have weapons.
Vacuum attachments
We have one of those nifty attachments with a miniature vacuum head. The brushes oscillate just like the main vacuum, and make it a breeze to pick up hair off carpets and furniture.
We bought the vacuum years ago, and it wasn't marketed for such use. Now I see commercials for a pet hair vacuum and the attachment looks very similar to mine.
The wand attachment also works wonders if you are not so good with a dustpan.
I sweep up little piles of filth then attack them with the wand attachment. The tumbleweeds are a little tougher, sometimes requiring a chase.
The vacuum also comes in handy when warding off filth-mongerers. Also known as my cats, these devils love to get directly in my swept-up piles. The noise scares them into hiding long enough to get up the mess.
Rubber gloves
Rubber gloves remind me of doctors' offices and bad horror movies, so I tend to shy away from them. They work though.
Slip on rubber gloves and wipe in circles. The hair sticks to the rubber. If it is a thicker rubber you plan to use repeatedly, take it outside and rinse the hair off with a hose. If they are disposable, dispose away.
Dusting cloths
I don't know if the hair is charged when it sits on bookshelves or if it is the result of trying to dust with those specialty dusting cloths, but I fight to get all of it from the surfaces.
That's where the vacuum's brush attachment helps.
But despite my best efforts, I still can't keep black shirts black or keep my cats from changing colors when they wallow on the floor.
Do you have any ideas to help me out?
