College Council members of Mitchell Community College recently asked staff and students to donate children's books for Barium Springs Home for Children and the Boys and Girls' Club of Statesville.

They placed decorated boxes across campus and received more than 400 books.

Barium Springs thanked 175 staff members that attended a Christmas lunch on Dec. 5, where the final tally of books reached 425.

"I am delighted with the community spirit the staff and students have, and this is entirely their idea, I do not tell them what they should do," MCC President Doug Eason said. "I think it is marvelous they want to give back."
