Those in the packed crowd kicked up their heels, while the cowboys and cowgirls kicked up the dust at the 3rd Kick Up Your Heels for Hospice Rodeo that took place in Love Valley earlier this month.

The more than 1,500 who attended the professionally sanctioned event were enthralled by the bareback bronco riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, calf roping and all the pageantry and beauty of cowboys and cowgirls doing what they love.

American cowboys from North Carolina and from as far away as Idaho were on hand to compete for prize money and world championship points.

For the third year, the Kick Up Your Heels for Hospice Rodeo was a success by all measures. Families enjoyed being a part of our western heritage and witnessing a true American sport performed by true professional athletes. Cowboy legend Dick Cory entertained the crowd with his roping act and local funny man and arena manager Charlie Nance clowned around throughout the evening.

Even the young wannabe cowboys and cowgirls in the audience were able to participate in the half-time calf-chasing contest to pull the ribbon off a calf's tale.

The Kick Up Your Heels for Hospice Rodeo was sanctioned by the International Pro Rodeo Association and the Southern Rodeo Association.

Thanks to arena managers Beth and Charlie Nance, not only has professional rodeo returned to Love Valley these past three years, but it benefits patient care at the Gordon Hospice House.

The almost 50 sponsors of the Rodeo truly made their mark in bringing back professional rodeo to Love Valley, and allowing a good portion of the proceeds to benefit the Gordon Hospice House.
Some $3,500 was raised this year to assist with patient care and comfort.
