IOC is dumb for ousting baseball, softball

Japan denied the United States softball team a fourth straight gold medal Thursday, when it defeated the Americans 3-1 in the final.

It was Team USA's first Olympic loss since 2000. They had won 22 straight.

The sad part is a lot of those players won't have a chance to redeem themselves at the next Olympics in four years.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) voted softball and baseball out for the 2012 Games, making them the first Olympic sports to be eliminated since polo in 1936.

That was a short stay.

Baseball joined the Olympics in 1992 and softball in 1996. And now they're getting the ax?

Ludicrous.

Cut something else. There are plenty of worthy candidates.

In fact, start with rhythmic gymnastics. It's an art form, not a sport. Who cares about watching someone twirl ribbon around?

Synchronized swimming is the same idea. Nix it, too.

Equestrian is expendable. The horse does all the work anyway.

And what about air pistol? Those people don't even break a sweat.

The IOC should be embarrassed to trim real sports like baseball and softball in favor of retaining such goofy activities.
