Broom in hand, the Wildcats take full aim this weekend at completing the sweep within the Mooresville Summer Basketball League ranks.

The Wildcats polished off the regular season phase of play in proper fashion last weekend fitting the fact that they headed into it already assured of an outright first place finish, capping off their phase of play with wins in both of their scheduled appearances. They were joined by two other fellow MSBL entries in closing out the regulation season on such a high note.

As a result, the 'Cats claim the first-place title and also own the number-one seed for the purpose of a weekend full of single-elimination postseason play on tap to take place this weekend and draw the summer-long season to an official close. The Wildcats do so penciled in as the favorite courtesy of the once-blemished, 13-1 ledger they bring with them into the tournament.

While the lone loss did prevent the Wildcats from posting a season of perfection, it nonetheless awarded them with a sizable lead over all remaining teams in the eight-member field. The Cats completed their season with comfortable four-game spreads in both the wins and losses columns over the next-best entry on the court.

With the 'Cats clawing their way to the top, it left the North Side to settle for second. Winning both of their final two games as well to embark on the postseason portion of play riding a winning streak, the North Side corners the field's number-two seed courtesy of its 9-5 overall slate.

Also thanks to prevailing in both of its games last weekend, 3-Ball broke free to wind up with a winning record overall. The crew cornered an official share of the standings' third-place honors with fellow squads Run-n-Gun and Bad Boys, each of them reaching that mark via different routes. The Bad Boys split their final two weekend's efforts, while R-n-G was handed setbacks in both of its games.

Rounding out the final standings finds the duo of Outta Nowhere and China Grove each at 4-10 for the season, each getting to that level after suffering back-to-back losses last week. Closing out the ranks find the Young Boys all alone in eighth place at the 3-11 mark, getting there thanks to netting a split of their final weekend's worth of efforts.

Play in the MSBL's postseason attraction will also take place in the same Mooresville Middle School gym that has served as the host site of all games during the course of regular season play as well. First-round contests will find all eight teams in action on the opening day Saturday, with those winners moving on to complete the bracket with the crowning of this summer's tournament champion come Sunday afternoon.

Also on Sunday, the league will be conducting its annual three-point shooting and slam dunk competitions as well. At the close of the final title game, trophies will be awarded according to the first-place team during the regular season, the tournament champion, three-point and dunk winner and select individual honors as well.

Jeff Little continues to serve as the commissioner of the MSBL.
