The Iredell Warriors improved to 5-0 on the season Saturday with a 27-13 victory over the Catawba Hornets.
Iredell wasted no time getting on the board as quarterback Carl Ford broke free for a 65-yard touchdown run on the second play of the scrimmage.
The Hornets later evened the score by returning a Warriors fumble for a touchdown, but Iredell took over quickly with a 59-yard drive capped by a 6-yard touchdown run by Ford. The former NFL player added a 35-yard touchdown run less than five minutes later to make it 21-7.
Cam Simpson tacked on the final touchdown early in the third quarter, darting in from eight yards out.
Ford led Iredell with 118 yards on five carries, while Simpson added 96 yards on 17 rushes. The Warriors also limited the Hornets to 141 yards of offense.
